In an interview with Trellis (formely GreenBiz), a business sustainability media and events company, Maximilian Müller explains what the first wave of CSRD reporting is already making clear: sustainability reports are becoming longer, more standardized, and more compliance-oriented as companies adapt to mandatory European disclosure rules. The result is a reporting landscape with less room for polished storytelling, but much stronger foundations for consistency and peer comparison.
The discussion also highlights several important shifts now underway, including the growing role of Big Four firms in providing limited assurance and the increasing number of companies restating sustainability data as reporting quality improves. Together, these early findings offer a useful snapshot of how CSRD is changing not just what companies disclose, but how they structure, verify, and communicate sustainability performance across Europe.
